EDMSSA Spring Meeting a Resounding Success
By Dave Robison
The Eastern Division MSS Association has just concluded its very successful Spring 2008 Meeting. This year the meeting was held at the Renaissance Philadelphia Hotel Airport on April 16th through the 18th in conjunction with a Motorola Service “Town Hall” meeting. One of the best attended meetings in recent memory, 51 shops were represented. Many thanks to Bill Scapin, Larry Escalona and Jim Schneider of Motorola for sponsoring the reception on the 16th.
Keynote presentations were made by Rhett Grotzinger of Xenith Solutions (“Where is Technology Going?”) who discussed the direction that technology is taking and how it may affect the services that our members offer to their customers and Mark Landiak, President of Corporate Dynamics (“How Changing Customer Needs are Changing the Way We do Business”) detailed how changes in technology are creating changes in the expectations our customers will have of us going forward and how we might respond by adjusting our approach and the delivery of services. Ron Franklin and Nancy Gruen discussed the current regulatory environment at FCC and the product offerings available through EWA. Brad Bartlett from GeoProductsSolutions demonstrated his GPS based business management tool. Greg Conrad from Mobilcomm presented a detailed overview of the world of wireless remote video surveillance and security. Sean Duffy discussed the marketing product opportunities available through Opt-in-Wireless and finally, Alan Leffler of EMR, Mark Dorner of Trident Microsystems, Steve Reeves and Ron Testa of P&R Communications and Bill Nichols from Aeroflex made short presentations describing their products and services available to the membership. Many thanks to Taber Alderman of Systems Implementation for sponsoring the beverage service at our breaks.
Following the general meeting, forty people visited the battleship New Jersey birthed in Camden, New Jersey, just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. The visit included transportation to the ship on a trolley bus and a private tour of the ship guided by extremely knowledgeable docents, a meal of steak or chicken in the enlisted men’s mess followed by the “Red, White and Blue Review” a 1940’s USO style musical review.
On Friday April 18, 2008 we held our annual business meeting with reports from Myron Polulak on the Motorola MSS Advisory Council and George Fleming and Dave Robison on the USMSS and its subsidiary NTSS, Inc. Kim Bozman, President (2007-2008) chaired the meeting. Mark Montgomery, President-Elect (2007-2008) will take the reins as President (2008-2009) in November 2008 and Joe Gately was elected to the Board (2008-2013) and will become President-Elect (2008 – 2009) in November.
